LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Bellarmine University tennis teams were both defeated by Lewis on Saturday at Advantage Tennis and Fitness in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.
The Knights women were edged 4-5 by the Flyers while the Knights men were beaten 1-8. It was Senior Day for the squads.
The loss was only the second of the season for Bellarmine's 25th-ranked women (17-2, 2-1 GLVC) while Lewis improved to 8-8 and 1-2. The Knights saw their seven-match winning streak snapped.
Lewis didn't have competitors at No. 3 doubles and Nos. 5 and 6 singles, forfeiting those matches. However, the Flyers won five of the six matches where they did have participants. In those contests, only senior
Marissa Kovach, at No. 4 singles, earned a win for Bellarmine.
On the men's side, Bellarmine sophomore
Andrew Jones captured a straight-sets victory at No. 6 singles. It was Jones' second straight win in GLVC action.
Bellarmine dropped to 2-13 overall and 0-3 in the GLVC while Lewis improved to 8-9 and 2-1.
Both teams host Alabama-Huntsville on Sunday at Advantage Tennis and Fitness. Play begins at 1 p.m. (ET).
