NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Trevecca Nazarene scored twice early in the second half, and the visiting Bellarmine University men's soccer team couldn't erase the deficit in falling 2-1 to the Trojans on Saturday.
Freshman forward
Laslo Wanger scored his first collegiate goal to cut the deficit in half for Bellarmine (1-1), but Trevecca Nazarene (1-0-1) held off the Knights' comeback bid at Trojan Soccer Complex in a match that contained a lengthy weather delay in the first half.
Bellarmine controlled much of the possession and held a 19-9 advantage in shots, including 9-4 on frame. Trevecca Nazarene goalkeeper Tyler Delgado was strong with eight saves, at one point diving to knock away a hard rip from junior forward
Tomas Bernedo that would have tied the match.
Trevecca Nazarene was opportunistic in scoring its two goals. The first came in the 49th minute on a counterattack. Armando Molina crossed to a wide-open Nicolas Reinhard for an easy finish and 1-0 lead. In the 58th minute, Molina punched in a rebound to give the Trojans a 2-0 advantage.
Bellarmine got within a goal as Wanger scored in the 73rd minute. The Knights had several shots after that but couldn't deliver the equalizer.
Bellarmine plays its final nonconference game next Saturday at Lee.
