Knights men's soccer scores twice in final 8 minutes in thrilling 3-2 win over Quincy

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — It was worth the wait.

After seven straight road games to start the season, the Bellarmine University men's soccer team at last made its home debut Friday night at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium, and the Knights came away with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Quincy after scoring twice inside the final eight minutes in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.

Sophomore midfielder Micah Linscott, junior forward Tomas Bernedo and sophomore defender Jonas Skulstad scored for Bellarmine (3-4-1, 2-2-1 GLVC), which won its 12th consecutive match at Frazier Stadium. Sophomore midfielder Collin Rose registered two assists and junior midfielder Donald Aviles and sophomore defender Greg Fischer contributed one each for the Knights against Quincy (4-4-1, 3-1-1).

With less than 10 minutes remaining, Bellarmine trailed Quincy 2-1. Bernedo delivered the equalizer in the 83rd minute when he headed in a corner kick from Rose. It was Bernedo's third goal of the season.

The corner kick was ultimately Bellarmine's best friend. The Knights scored again on the set piece in the 88th minute as Fischer connected with Skulstad, who drove in a header for the game-winner on his first goal of the season.

Bellarmine battled back after facing two deficits. The first came in the opening half as Quincy's Kyle Fraser scored in the 10th minute. The Knights tied it up in the 17th minute on Linscott's team-best fourth goal of the season as he finished a cross from Rose following a nice lead pass from Aviles.

Quincy regained the lead in the second half on Kingsford Adjei's goal in the 61st minute, but Bernedo and Skulstad capitalized on corner kicks to end the Hawks' three-game win streak.

Bellarmine finished with an 18-11 advantage in shots, with both teams tallying seven shots on goal. The Knights' defense didn't allow Aubrey Reis, the GLVC's leading goal scorer with 11, to attempt a shot.

Bellarmine hosts Illinois Springfield at 2:30 p.m. (ET) Sunday.
