LOUISIVLLE, Ky.—The Bellarmine Knights volleyball team started hot and finished hot in sweeping the visiting Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles on Saturday afternoon in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match at Knights Hall.
Bellarmine rolled to a 25-11 first set win and simply kept the accelerator to the floor to knock out USI 25-19, 25-18 in sets two and three to complete the sweep.
Freshman
Jayme Scott turned in another spectacular performance for the Knights. Less than 24 hours after setting her career high with 24 kills in a five-set match, she nearly duplicated that feat in just three sets, going for 21 kills while hitting at a .444 clip. Scott also was a leader defensively, chalking up a match-high 14 digs.
Also registering a double-double for Bellarmine was setter
Kristen O'Toole with 34 assists and 11 digs.
The Knights' offense hummed along with an attack percentage of .274 while limiting USI to just .061. Bellarmine tallied 48 kills while the Screaming Eagles collected just 22—one more than Scott's individual total.
Defensively, Southern Indiana held a 7-1 edge in team blocks, but Bellarmine outdug the visitors 54-33.
Bellarmine improves to 16-8 overall and upped its GLVC mark to 6-3. The Screaming Eagles slip to 11-13, 3-6 GLVC.
