Chastonay earns 200th career win in men's soccer's romp over Miners

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Bellarmine University men's soccer team celebrated Coach Tim Chastonay's milestone win by dousing him with the water cooler.

The Knights made sure there was no doubt such a postgame scene would take place.

On Sunday at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium, 10th-ranked Bellarmine scored a shade over five minutes into its match with Missouri S&T and never looked back in a 4-0 romp in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.

The victory for undefeated Bellarmine (11-0-4, 8-0-4 GLVC) marked the 200th career men's win for Chastonay. It also lifted the Knights' unbeaten streak to 24 dating back to last season.

Several players contributed to the scoring effort against Missouri S&T (5-8-2, 4-7-2). Junior midfielder Micah Linscott registered two goals while junior defender Eddie Williamson recorded a goal and an assist. Freshman midfielder Haziq Zed tallied his first collegiate goal while senior forward Tomas Bernedo, senior midfielder Donald Aviles and junior midfielders Greg Fischer and Jonathan Huerta chipped in one assist apiece.

The outburst represented the third time this season Bellarmine has scored at least four goals. It was triggered early against the Miners, as Linscott headed in a Bernedo cross for a 1-0 lead in the sixth minute.

Roughly 10 minutes later, Bellarmine built its lead to 2-0. Williamson punched in a Fischer service near the back post for his fourth goal of the season.

Bellarmine took the 2-0 advantage into halftime and added to it in the 64th minute. Huerta spotted Aviles streaking down the sideline, and Aviles' cross deflected off a defender to Linscott, who ripped in his second goal of the contest and sixth of the season.

Zed closed out the scoring in the 73rd minute with the first goal of his career. He converted off a feed from Williamson.

Bellarmine finished with a 16-9 advantage in shots, including 9-2 on goal. The defense collected its sixth shutout.

Bellarmine hosts William Jewell at 6:30 p.m. (ET) Friday.
