LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The No. 22 Bellarmine University men's soccer team scored twice in the second half Friday night in defeating Missouri-St. Louis 2-0 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium.
Senior forward
Tomas Bernedo sank a penalty kick and junior midfielder
Collin Rose finished a cross from junior midfielder
Jonathan Huerta for Bellarmine (6-0-2, 3-0-2 GLVC), which extended its unbeaten to 17 dating back to last season. Missouri-St. Louis (2-7, 0-6) was the Knights' fourth shutout victim.
Bellarmine had a muscular 24-5 advantage in shots, but the Knights couldn't find the net in the first half even with an 11-2 superiority in attempts. Junior midfielder
Logan Hankamer brought a lot of energy to Bellarmine off the bench and was the catalyst for the team's first goal after drawing a foul inside the box.
Hankamer's play occurred in the 62nd minute. Bernedo followed by ripping in the penalty kick for his fifth goal of the season.
Bellarmine didn't waste much time tacking on an insurance goal. Huerta made a superb cross toward the back post, and Rose flew in to deliver a right-footer inside the near post for a 2-0 lead in the 67th minute. It was Rose's first career goal at Bellarmine.
Bellarmine carried a 12-2 advantage in shots on goal, along with a 10-5 edge in corner kicks.
Bellarmine hosts Lindenwood at 2:30 p.m. (ET) Sunday.
