LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Lincoln Memorial defeated the Bellarmine University men's tennis team 5-2 on Saturday at the Eddie Weber Tennis Complex.
Freshman
Caleb Buckman notched a pair of wins for Bellarmine (3-3), which had its three-match winning streak snapped. Lincoln Memorial (3-1) registered the victory after winning four of the six singles matches and gaining the doubles point with wins at Nos. 2 and 3.
Buckman and sophomore
Sam Rueff defeated Felipe Charry and Fabian Sjokvist 6-3 at No. 1 doubles. Buckman then rallied to outlast David Segarra 5-7, 6-3, 11-9 at No. 1 singles, and freshman
Michael Staff triumphed 7-5, 4-6, 10-8 over Moritz Hoerner at No. 3.
"Despite the loss, this was the best we have played all year, and it was a great match against a team we could barely get games off of last year," Knights Coach
Tyler Worley said. "We are showing great improvement and the guys are starting to believe we can hang with just about anyone. Caleb and Michael both had great singles wins."
Bellarmine hosts Hillsdale on Saturday.
