LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Bellarmine University swimming teams faced Division I Xavier in dual competition Saturday at the Mary T. Meagher Aquatic Center.
Xavier captured a 183-79 win on the men's side and 195-61 victory on the women's side.
Senior
Evan Shive placed first in a pair of events for Bellarmine's men, taking top honors in the 50 freestyle (21.70) and 100 butterfly (50.92). Junior
Ty Grubb, in the 100 breaststroke (58.05), and sophomore
Matthew Sims, in the 200 butterfly (1:51.51), also registered a top finish.
Sophomore
Daniel Sims secured three runner-up finishes, in the 100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke and 200 individual medley. Grubb added a third in the 200 breaststroke, and
Matthew Sims did the same in the 1000 freestyle.
Junior
Sophia Noren placed first in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.79) for Bellarmine's women, and sophomore
Rachel Walker won the gold in the 500 freestyle (5:13.23). In addition, Walker placed second in the 200 freestyle.
Sophomore
Avery Witcher, in the 1000 freestyle, and freshman
Megan Schroeder, in the 100 breaststroke, notched runner-up finishes. Senior
Grace Roegner collected a third in the 50 freestyle.
Bellarmine will compete Jan. 24-25 in a double dual against McKendree and Missouri-St. Louis. McKendree will be the host.
