LOUISVILLE, Ky. – After nearly a month since their last competition, the Bellarmine University swimming teams are rested and ready for competition again this weekend, heading to Valparaiso, IL for a tri-meet against Eastern Illinois and host Valparaiso at the Valparaiso Aquatic Center.
The Knights will be back in the pool on Saturday, October 19 with the meet beginning at 1 p.m. ET.
Freshman
Micaela Godfrey led the women in their season opener at the Butler Double Dual, taking first place in both the 400 IM and the 200 backstroke. Godfrey was also a member of 400 medley relay team that placed third, swimming alongside senior
Alexandra Pierce and fellow freshman
Annie Leibold and
Lily Epley. Epley took second in the 50 free and third in the 100 free as well.
For the men, junior
Cason Henderson and sophomore
Evan Dickson each took home a runner-up finish. Henderson placed second in the 200 butterfly while also taking third in the 400 IM. Dickson's runner-up finish came in the 200 freestyle. Senior
John Paul Metzner took a pair of third place finishes in the 50 and 100 freestyle to round out the Knights top performers.
Both Eastern Illinois and Valparaiso will compete tonight before Bellarmine joins them in the pool on Saturday. EIU heads to Indiana State while Valpo hosts Quincy and Illinois Tech.
