Men's tennis opens spring with 6-1 win over West Liberty

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Bellarmine University men's tennis team opened its spring season Saturday, and the Knights didn't leave any doubt about recording their first win under first-year Coach Will Davis.

Bellarmine began the 2020 portion of its schedule by capturing a 6-1 victory over West Liberty at the Eddie Weber Tennis Complex.

Bellarmine (1-0) won all three of the doubles matches and five singles contests against West Liberty (0-1).

Freshman Eli Franks and junior Sam Rueff won 6-3 at No. 3 doubles and freshman Emil Bjoerlykke Berglund and sophomore Michael Staff notched a 6-2 victory at No. 2 to secure the doubles point. Freshman Paul Reynolds and junior Evan Bottorff made it a doubles sweep with a 6-4 triumph at No. 1.

Reynolds, Bjoerlykke Berglund and Rueff, at Nos. 2, 3 and 4 singles, all won in straight sets, with Rueff clinching the team victory. Franks won in three sets at No. 5, and junior Joseph Naville tallied a straight-sets victory at No. 6.

Bellarmine will host Georgetown (Ky.) College next Saturday.
