Women's basketball returns home to welcome Truman State, Quincy

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — After a lengthy road stretch, the Bellarmine University women's basketball team is set to make its return to Knights Hall.

Bellarmine (12-9, 7-7 Great Lakes Valley Conference) will welcome Truman State (16-5, 12-2) at 5:45 p.m. (ET) Thursday before hosting Quincy (7-15, 3-11) at 1 p.m. Saturday. Thursday will represent the Knights' "Pink Game," an annual event where the team honors those affected by cancer.

With six regular-season games remaining, Bellarmine stands at seventh in the GLVC Point Rating System, which determines the eight-team conference tournament. The team is 8-4 in Knights Hall.

Truman State is fourth in the GLVC Point Rating System despite carrying the second-best conference record in the league, behind only top-ranked and undefeated Drury. In contrast to well-traveled Bellarmine, Truman State is coming off four home games. The Bulldogs went 3-1 in that span, most recently rebounding with a 63-58 win over Missouri-St. Louis after falling 72-65 to Lindenwood.

Truman State boasts an impressive offense. The Bulldogs are tied with Drury for the best field-goal percentage (46.0) in the GLVC, rank second in 3-pointers made per game (8.2) and are third in scoring (76.0). Truman State also ranks first in the league in rebounding margin (plus-7.8), which will undoubtedly be an emphasis for Bellarmine entering the game.

Truman State exhibits balanced scoring, as three players average double figures and two more are right on the cusp. Sloane Totta (14.2) paces the Bulldogs while Katie Jaseckas (13.1) and Hannah Belanger (12.2) are close behind. Totta, Belanger and Katey Klucking (9.6) all hit about two 3-pointers per game. Totta ranks third in the GLVC in assists (5.1).

Quincy dropped both its games last week but was competitive in a 61-56 loss to Missouri-St. Louis and a 92-83 setback to Lindenwood. Alexa Low (11.2), Laney Lantz (11.0) and Aleksandra Petrovic (10.5) are all scoring in double figures for the Hawks.

Bellarmine is coming off two distinctly different performances. Coach Chancellor Dugan bemoaned the team's lack of energy in Thursday's 63-47 road loss to William Jewell that tied the second-fewest points scored in her tenure. However, Bellarmine responded with a sound 77-66 victory at Rockhurst in which the Knights shot 46 percent, nailed 11 3-pointers, held a 40-29 rebounding advantage, built a 42-31 halftime lead and answered accordingly with a strong fourth quarter after the Hawks had rallied to end the third.

Junior guard Tasia Jeffries racked up a career-high 24 points behind six 3-pointers in the win over Rockhurst. Jeffries (10.1) and junior guard Breia Torrens (14.1) are scoring in double figures for Bellarmine, senior forward Mallory Schwartz is the leading rebounder (6.7) and senior guard Mikayla Berry is tops in assists (2.6).
