Men's tennis moves to 3-0 after edging Lincoln Memorial

HARROGATE, Tenn. — The visiting Bellarmine University men's tennis team secured a 4-3 win Sunday over Lincoln Memorial.

Bellarmine (3-0) entered 1-6 all-time against Lincoln Memorial (1-3) and hadn't defeated the Railsplitters since 2013.

Bellarmine claimed the doubles point after junior Evan Bottorff and freshman Paul Reynolds edged Jake Tuchmann and Iker Moure at No. 1, and sophomore Michael Staff and freshman Emil Bjoerlykke Berglund bested Fabian Sjokvist and Sebastian Colla 6-3 at No. 2.

Bottorff bumped Bellarmine's lead to 2-0 after dominating Moure at No. 1 singles, and Bjoerlykke Berglund gave the Knights a 3-1 advantage after a straight-sets win over Sebastian Colla at No. 3.

Lincoln Memorial got within 3-2, but Reynolds pulled out a three-set win over Sjokvist at No. 2 to clinch the team victory.

"I am really proud of the team," Knights Coach Will Davis said. "They came ready to fight with great energy. We have a lot of work left to do, but the team is getting better every day."

Bellarmine will host Campbellsville on Saturday.
