LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Bellarmine University's
Alex Cook has been recognized as second-team All-Midwest Region by the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (CCA).
Cook, a senior forward from Louisville, was one of just 10 players from the entire Midwest Region to earn recognition. The Midwest Region encompasses schools competing in the Great Lakes Valley, Great Lakes Intercollegiate and Great Midwest conferences.
Bellarmine's leading scorer and rebounder at 16.6 points and 6.1 rebounds per contest, Cook was recently was acknowledged as first-team All-Great Lakes Valley Conference. In addition, Cook was one the league's and nation's most accurate shooters, making 54.1 percent of his field goals and canning 92.3 percent of his free throws, the latter statistic leading the league and ranking fifth in the nation.
Cook, who picked up a GLVC Player of the Week honor earlier this year, also ranks highly on several career lists at Bellarmine. His 1,273 career points place him 24th on BU's all-time list and his 85 blocked shots rank fifth. He also will go down as the second-best free throw shooter in Bellarmine history with a career free throw percentage of 88.5.
Cook's GLVC colleagues Brodric Thomas of Truman State, Jimmy King of Indianapolis, and Yaakema Rose of Missouri-St. Louis joined him on the All-Midwest Region Team. Michigan Tech's Kyle Monroe earned Player of the Year honors in the Midwest Region.
