LOUISVILLE, Ky.—The Bellarmine Knights are looking to keep the positive momentum going when they visit Kennesaw State for ASUN Conference games on Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 4 p.m.
Bellarmine (7-5, 4-2 ASUN) enters play this week on a four-game winning streak thanks to three straight comeback victories. Perhaps the most impressive of the comebacks was the most recent game in which the Knights rallied from 20 points down in the second half to post an 11-point win over Stetson in Freedom Hall on Saturday.
In their last three games, the Knights have outscored their opponents 134-76 after halftime as they've shot better than 66 percent during the second half of those games.
Conversely, the Owls of Kennesaw State (3-13, 0-8 ASUN) have seen their opportunities slip away for the most part this season. Still looking for their first conference win, the Owls have five losses in ASUN play by six or fewer points. Through their first 16 games, Kennesaw State has managed just three wins, yet the Owls' scoring margin is a competitive -3.3 on the year.
The Knights are developing into a team with a balanced scoring attack as four players average in double digits. Junior
Pedro Bradshaw leads that quartet with an average of 13.3 and the Knights' leading rebounder at 7.2 per contest. Senior guard
CJ Fleming has raised his scoring average to 12.3 and is currently second in the ASUN in 3-point percentage at 47.2 percent. He also leads the league in assist to turnover ratio at 7:1.
Other top scorers for the Knights are
Ethan Claycomb and
Dylan Penn, who both have tossed in 141 points this season for an average of 11.8.
Kennesaw State is led by a slew of newcomers so it's little wonder that the 2021 Owls have seen new faces take on leadership roles. Currently, KSU's top five scorers are new to the team this season, led my junior college transfer Spencer Rodgers. The 6-4 guard not only paces KSU offensively at 16.2 points a game, but he's second in the league in scoring.
Kennesaw's only other double-digit scorer is freshman guard Chris Youngblood at 12.3 point per game. The Rodgers-Youngblood tandem represents the Owls' primary perimeter threat with those two players combining to launch 203 of the team's 357 3-point attempts on the season.
Game coverage includes ESPN+ for both games with radio coverage by Doug Ormay and Mark Bugg on 93.9 The Ville.
