Knights close ASUN Crossover with loss to Hatters

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.—The Bellarmine Knights closed the ASUN Conference Crossover weekend with a straight-sets loss to Stetson on Sunday morning at the University of North Florida Arena.

The Knights couldn't slow the Hatters' attack as Stetson hit .302 for the match and held a 49-33 advantage in kills.

Stetson roared out of the gates, pulling out to a 14-5 lead in the first set before Julia Dailey came on in the late stages and provided a spark for the Knights with four kills. Bellarmine wasn't able to complete a comeback, and the Hatters took a 25-18 win in the opener.

The script was much the same in the second game as Stetson opened a big lead at 11-2. This time, the Knights weren't able to cut into the lead as the Hatters went on to post a 25-14 victory.

The third set played out a lot differently, with the Knights outhitting Stetson .233 to .216.  In the end, Stetson was able to come up with the points when it needed, scoring the final two to secure the match with a 25-23 win in set three.

Dailey paced the Bellarmine offense with a season-high nine kills with Jayme Scott and Bailey Roszman adding eight apiece. Setter Sam Rickert registered a double-double with 27 assists and 12 digs.

Anna Lococo turned in solid effort from her libero position for the Knights, coming up with a match-high 17 digs.

The Hatters (11-12, 6-5 ASUN) were led by Elena Djokovic's 14 kills while setter Nyah Molina also notched a double-double with 39 assists and 14 digs.

Bellarmine (6-17, 2-9 ASUN) returns to ASUN West Division play next week with road matches at Jacksonville State and North Alabama on Friday and Saturday.
