LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Bellarmine University women's basketball team will wrap up the nonconference portion of its 2021-22 schedule when the Knights host Campbellsville Harrodsburg at 6:30 p.m. (ET) Wednesday in Freedom Hall.
The game against the Pioneers (6-10) will represent a short turnaround for Bellarmine (2-8), which played Monday night at Ball State. The Knights fell 84-63 in a matchup that was closer than the final score indicated, as Bellarmine was within six midway through the third quarter.
Campbellsville Harrodsburg is the final tune-up before Bellarmine enters ASUN play. The Knights will have a healthy break from competitive action over the holidays before returning to the court Jan. 5 at Jacksonville State, which is a new member of the ASUN.
Jaela Johnson continues to impress. The junior guard scored a team-high 18 points against Ball State — not to mention posting career highs in rebounds (seven) and assists (six) — and is Bellarmine's leading scorer at 13.3 per game behind seven double-figure performances in her last eight outings.
One game after delivering career highs in assists (10) and blocks (three) against Spalding,
Presley Brown tied a career best with seven rebounds against Ball State. The senior guard is averaging 9.8 points and a team-high 3.1 assists. She's reached double digits in the point column in five of the last six games.
Johnson and sophomore guard
Mackenzie Keelin (9.2 PPG) have combined to sink 42 3-pointers. Senior guard
Kathleen Scott (8.1 PPG) is the ASUN's leader in free-throw percentage at 89.7, while senior forward
Sheniqua Coatney tops the Knights in rebounding at 5.3 per contest.
A member of the National Christian College Athletic Association, Campbellsville Harrodsburg is coming off an 84-41 loss to Oakland City on Dec. 15. While on a two-game losing streak, the Pioneers won their five previous contests before that.
Oriona Woods is the team's leading scorer at 17.8 points per game. Jaiden Douthit is next at 13.1 per contest. As a team, Campbellsville Harrodsburg is averaging 67.9 points per game. The Pioneers have amassed 75 points or more on six occasions, with a high of 87 against Welch College in their season opener.
Campbellsville Harrodsburg has been particularly effective on the offensive glass. The Pioneers have racked up double-digit efforts in offensive rebounds in every game and average 17.3 per outing.
