NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Sophomore midfielder
Haziq Zed scored in the 81st minute as the Bellarmine University men's soccer team notched its first-ever Division I and ASUN Conference win with a 1-0 road victory Saturday over Lipscomb.
Senior midfielder
Micah Linscott recorded an assist on Zed's goal for Bellarmine (1-2, 1-0 ASUN). Sophomore goalkeeper
Matthew Brozovich tallied five saves and a shutout in his first career start as the Knights were making their ASUN debut against Lipscomb (3-1, 0-1).
Bellarmine had a great chance to take the lead in the 25th minute, but Linscott's shot was saved by Lipscomb goalie Michael Sibley. Sophomore midfielder
Jackson Snowden's follow-up attempt deflected off the side of the goalpost before senior midfielder
Greg Fischer's follow-up missed high.
Lipscomb's Ryan Dougherty had a shot to put the Bisons up, but Brozovich leapt and made an amazing save to keep the game scoreless heading into the half.
The Knights controlled the first half on the stat sheet, holding a 5-1 shot advantage and a 4-1 advantage in shots on goal. Lipscomb flipped the script in the second half, outshooting the Knights 7-1 and holding a 4-1 edge in shots on goal, but couldn't capitalize on the scoreboard. Zed, meanwhile, made good on Bellarmine's one shot on frame in the second stanza.
Brozovich made four of his five saves in the second half including two in the waning seconds of regulation to keep the Bisons off the scoreboard and secure the victory for Bellarmine.
Bellarmine will host Liberty at 2 p.m. (ET) Saturday.
