LOUISVILLE, Ky.—The Bellarmine Knights dropped its second straight ASUN Conference match to the visiting Kennesaw State Owls on Saturday in Knights Hall, falling in straight sets 21-25, 15-25, 13-25.
Last night, Bellarmine, which is in its first year as a Division I program, took the defending ASUN Champion to five sets, but on Saturday, the Owls came out hot and only got better.
Kennesaw State (2-0, 2-0 ASUN) swung for a .308 hitting percentage in the first frame, notching 16 kills on 39 swings. The bad news for the Knights is that the Owls got stronger as the match wore on, hitting .323 in the second set before closing with a .517 hitting game in the third.
The Owls were paced by Lauren Chastang and Emma Schurfranz, who led all hitters with 14 and 13 kills respectively.
Among the bright spots for Bellarmine were
Julia Dailey and
Sam Rickert.
For the second straight match Dailey reached the double-digit kill plateau, leading the Knights with 10 after recording 11 in Friday's contest.
Rickert, meanwhile, continues to rack up the double-doubles. In six matches, this year, the junior setter has five, accomplishing the feat tonight with 27 assists and 13 digs—which tied teammate
Karleigh Wilson for match-high honors.
The Knights (1-5, 0-2 ASUN) welcome Lipscomb to Knights Hall in their next action. Bellarmine will host the Bisons on Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 5 p.m.
