LOUISVILLE, Ky. —The Bellarmine volleyball team closed out its regular season at Knights Hall on Saturday night, falling in straight sets to the Lipscomb Bisons (28-30, 15-25, 14-25).
The Knights bolted out of the gates and enjoyed an 18-12 advantage in the first set. However, the momentum shifted to the Bisons, and the visitors staged a late comeback and took their first lead at 23-22. The Knights fought off six set points before Lipscomb finally closed the game out 30-28.
The momentum shift that led to the Bisons' first set comeback stayed for the remainder of the match as Lipscomb handily won the final two games to earn the sweep.
The match victory propelled the Bisons to a final regular season record of 14-2, and their 11-1 ASUN record was the best in the league as they will enter the conference tourney as the No. 1 seed.
Bellarmine drops to 4-12, and their ASUN record of 3-9 gets the Knights the No. 4 seed in the upcoming ASUN Tourney. It also gets the Knights a rematch with the Bisons in the opening round of the championship. The ASUN quarterfinals will be played at campus sites, meaning Bellarmine will travel to Nashville to face the Bisons on Saturday at 6 p.m. (CT).
In tonight's match, the Bisons spread the wealth with four players reaching double digits in kills. Meg Mersman led that quartet with 12 while hitting .500 for the match.
Conversely, the Knights' top hitter was Bailey Roszman with eight while Hannah Brown added seven and Abbie Stefanon chipped in six. Karleigh Wilson was the sole Knight in double digit digs, recording 11 on the night.
