LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Bellarmine University women's basketball team started slow and North Florida never took its foot off the gas as the Ospreys captured a 77-49 victory over the Knights on Saturday in ASUN action in Freedom Hall.
The contest marked the regular-season finale for Bellarmine (5-16, 5-11 ASUN) and UNA (13-10, 11-5), the latter of which earned the 3-seed in the ASUN Conference Championship while the Knights are the 7-seed.
After nearly knocking off North Florida on Friday in a down-to-the-wire 76-73 loss, Bellarmine made just two field goals in the first quarter Saturday and fell behind 18-5. The Knights never could recover, trailing 37-21 at halftime and 57-36 after three quarters.
On Senior Day, in which captains
Tasia Jeffries and
Breia Torrens were honored, Jeffries canned four 3-pointers and led Bellarmine with 15 points. Freshman forward
Lucy Robertson scored a career-high 14 points behind 6-for-9 shooting. Freshman guard
Claire Knies grabbed six rebounds.
Bellarmine will meet 2-seed Liberty at 7 p.m. (ET) Thursday in the ASUN quarterfinals in Kennesaw, Georgia.
