LOUISVILLE, Ky. —
Brock Pope's first goal in a Bellarmine University men's soccer uniform was certainly timely.
The sophomore midfielder and Bradley transfer scored in the first overtime Sunday to send the Knights to a 1-0 win over Purdue Fort Wayne at Hefner Stadium.
Bellarmine moved to 2-0, with both victories coming in dramatic fashion. The OT thriller against Purdue Fort Wayne (0-2) followed a 2-1 triumph over Evansville in the season opener in which the Knights rallied from a one-goal deficit and scored the game-winner with less than seven minutes remaining in regulation.
Despite both teams reaching double digits in shots, neither found the net in regulation time. Pope delivered the golden goal in the 96th minute, successfully converting among a jumble of players in the box.
The balanced stat sheet against Purdue Fort Wayne was similar to the one against Evansville for Bellarmine. Both teams attempted 13 shots, but the Knights did have a 5-2 advantage on frame.
Junior goalkeeper
Matthew Brozovich recorded the shutout and had two saves for Bellarmine.
The Knights play at 7:30 p.m. (ET) Friday at Louisville.
