LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Bellarmine University women's tennis team will open the fall portion of its schedule Friday by competing in the EMU Hidden Duels.
Hosted by Eastern Michigan, the Hidden Duels is a two-day event that will run through Saturday. Bellarmine, EMU, Northern Kentucky and Oakland are the participants in the tournament where opponents don't play each other in consecutive doubles and singles matches — only one type or the other — so team scores aren't produced like in traditional dual matches.
Brian Slack will be making his head-coaching debut for the Knights. Slack came to Bellarmine after a distinguished career at the NAIA and junior college levels where he was the coach of nine juco national champions (eight as a head coach, one as an assistant) along with NAIA national finalists as an assistant on both the women's and men's sides.
Bellarmine returns four players in senior
Madison Devillez and juniors
Maja Kozerski,
Channing Varnum and
Morgan Whitlock. Freshmen
Rose Pastoret and
Ekaterina Tikhonko are newcomers to the Knights.
On Friday, Bellarmine will face Eastern Michigan in doubles play at 1 p.m. followed by Northern Kentucky in singles action.
On Saturday, Bellarmine will lead off against NKU in doubles play at 9:30 a.m. followed by Oakland in singles action. In a second Saturday session, the Knights will face Oakland in doubles play at 1:30 p.m. followed by Eastern Michigan in singles action.
