Knights upended by Lipscomb despite another career high from Harney

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Senior guard Bailee Harney racked up a career-high 23 points, but the Bellarmine University women's basketball team fell 65-54 to Lipscomb in ASUN action Saturday in Allen Arena.

Harney sank eight of her 16 shots, including 5-of-9 from 3-point land, for Bellarmine (3-12, 0-4 ASUN) and established a new career high for the second time in three games. Four of those trifectas and 16 of those points came in the first half against Lipscomb (6-9, 1-1).

While Harney was Bellarmine's lone double-figurer scorer, Lipscomb had three reach double digits, as Jordan Peete registered 16, Bella Vinson tallied 14 and Casey Collier chipped in 10. The Bisons outrebounded the Knights 40-28.

Both teams were strong from beyond the arc. Lipscomb canned 10 of its 21 attempts from deep, while Bellarmine converted on nine of its 22 opportunities. The Knights were red hot from downtown in the first quarter, burying their first five shots from 3-point land, including a 3-for-3 performance from Harney as they took a 19-14 lead.

Bellarmine led by eight early in the second quarter on a 3-pointer by sophomore guard Claire Knies, but Lipscomb responded with a 21-7 run before Harney nailed a trey to cut the deficit to 35-32 at halftime. After the Knights went up 39-38 midway through the third quarter on a 3-pointer by senior guard Presley Brown, the Bisons answered with an 11-3 burst and carried a 50-44 advantage into the fourth.

Once there, Lipscomb boosted its lead to 58-47 with 5:41 left and never let Bellarmine get closer than nine thereafter. The Bisons limited the Knights to 22 second-half points.

Bellarmine hosts North Alabama at 6:30 p.m. (ET) Wednesday in Freedom Hall.
