LOUISVILLE, Ky.—The Bellarmine Knights fell in straight sets (23-25, 21-25, 22-25) to visiting Jacksonville University on Friday night in an ASUN Conference match at Knights Hall.
The Dolphins came into the contest leading the league in blocking, and they added to that statistic with 12 team blocks, led by Lyric Love with six. Mostly as a result of the JU block, Bellarmine was limited to a hitting percentage of just .102.
"We just really struggled to get thing going from an energy standpoint," said Bellarmine Coach
Rick Nold. "We've shown the ability all season to dig out of a rut, but tonight we just didn't have the fire that we usually see. It's a great learning experience, and we'll be better tomorrow."
Jacksonville's Jenna McNamara was the match's top hitter with 11 kills while hitting .310 and adding a pair of solo blocks. The Dolphins also had the match leader in digs as Kariana Ayala-Drew came up with 13.
For Bellarmine,
Jayme Scott recorded a team-high 10 kills, while middle blocker
Jayda Harris notched seven kills on just 11 swings for a .636 attack percentage.
Anna Lococo was the lone Knight in double digit digs with 10.
The loss drops Bellarmine to 10-13 overall and 4-7 in league play. For Jacksonville, the victory snapped a six-match losing skid as they improved to 9-14, 3-8 ASUN.
Bellarmine has a short turnaround with North Florida coming to Knights Hall for an 11 a.m. match on Saturday. The Ospreys lost in straight sets to Eastern Kentucky on Friday and now sport an 8-14 record with a 6-5 mark in league play.
