LOUISVILLE, Ky. — It may have been another draw, but it was a valuable one.
On Saturday night in Owsley B. Frazier Stadium, the Bellarmine University men's soccer team punched its ticket to the ASUN Tournament with the point earned from a scoreless stalemate with Queens.
Bellarmine (6-3-6, 2-2-3 ASUN) bumped its Division I-era program-record unbeaten streak to nine. The last five, the latest being Queens (4-10-1, 1-5-1), have been draws.
While Bellarmine certainly had its chances offensively, Queens may have had the match's two best opportunities to score. Knights senior goalkeeper
Matthew Brozovich snuffed out both attempts, turning back a 1v1 in the box and thwarting a penalty kick in the second half.
Brozovich registered five saves in leading Bellarmine's defense to its seventh shutout. Brozovich earned his fifth clean sheet. The Knights have conceded one goal or less in 10 straight games.
Queens had a slight edge in shots at 13-12 and corner kicks at 9-8. The Royals had a 7-3 advantage in shots at halftime, but the Knights had nine attempts to their six in the second half.
The contest marked the regular-season home finale for Bellarmine, which celebrated seniors Brozovich,
Brandon Barrera,
Tim Dapore,
Camden Dunne,
Joey Gladys,
Jackson Kirn,
Nolan McGrath,
Rahim Shalash,
Jackson Snowden and
Haziq Zed.
Bellarmine will conclude the regular season at 8 p.m. (ET) Tuesday at Lipscomb.
