LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The 2022-23 track and field season got off to a rousing start for Bellarmine University.
On Saturday at the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center, the Knights combined to either break or tie seven program records as they kicked off the indoor season in the Commonwealth College Opener.
The rewriting of the program record books went as follows:
- Sloan Cox set a new men's overall and freshman program record in the shot put on his first collegiate throw. He would best that mark and his top toss landed at 16.52 meters, good for fourth place. Elliot Mattingly had held the previous program record (15.63) since 2011.
- Sophomore Trevor Holbrook set a new men's overall program record in the 300 (34.86) while finishing 14th in the event.
- Sophomore Chloe Freilinger set a new women's overall program record in the 300 (40.06) while placing seventh in the event.
- Jackson Gordon set a new men's overall and freshman program record in the 500 (1:04.26) while finishing sixth in the event.
- Alex Cole set a new men's freshman program record in the weight throw (15.48) while placing seventh. Dillon Pruett owned the previous mark (13.97) since 2015.
- Zac Hutslar set a new men's freshman program record in the 200 (22.61) while finishing sixth. Damar Williams had held the previous record (22.65) since 2011.
- Zander Hooten tied the men's freshman program record in the 60 hurdles (8.45) while winning the event. He tied Seth Sigler's mark from 2010.

Jansen Story took third in the 4x400 relay. Sophomore
Naimah Slaughter placed sixth of 23 in the long jump and 13th of 38 in the 200.

Katie Monheimer (eighth) and freshman
Avery Koch (10th) were both top 10 of 26 in the shot put, while sophomore
Lauren DeBold was 12th of 27 in the weight throw.
Gordon, Holbrook, senior
Ryan Hawkins and Hutslar placed fourth in the men's 4x400.
Bellarmine is off from competition until Jan. 13-14, when the Knights will compete in the Cardinal Classic hosted by Louisville at the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center.
