JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Freshman
Caysie Brady has been smashing Bellarmine University women's track and field program records all year long on the throwing front.
But the crowning achievement of her auspicious inaugural campaign came Saturday on the final day of the ASUN Outdoor Championships, as Brady captured a groundbreaking gold medal in the discus at the University of North Florida's Hodges Stadium.
Brady topped all competitors with a 48.82m launch that wrangled 10 points and bested her previous program record of 47.60m set at the Wake Forest Invitational. In doing so, she made history after becoming the program's first-ever freshman to win an individual title at an ASUN Championships. Overall, she was the first freshman since Kaysee O'Bannon in 2013 (100m and 200m at the GLVC Outdoor Championships) to win gold in an individual event at a conference meet.
Brady became the third-ever Bellarmine athlete — and first thrower — to take the top spot on the medal stand at an ASUN meet after
Amelia Svidal (2025 women's outdoor triple jump) and
Zander Hooten (2026 men's indoor 60m hurdles) previously won gold. In addition to the discus, she also shattered the program record in the hammer throw on Day 1 of the meet.
Bellarmine's throwing unit had a banner meet. Freshman
Dylan Forster earned a bronze medal in the men's shot put with a heave of 16.71m; it was the men's second bronze in as many days after senior
Alex Cole's performance Friday in the discus.
Forster amassed 6 points in the shot put, while sophomore
Will Bracher (sixth, 15.41m, 3 pts) and junior
Enrico Busato (seventh, 15.35m, 2 pts) also scored in the event. Junior
Haden Wolfe placed sixth in the women's discus (42.09m, 3 pts) as the Knights had two scorers in the event, while junior
Aubrey Lane finished sixth in the javelin (31.46m, 3 pts). Lane also placed fourth in the 800m (2:11.48, 5 pts).
Both Bellarmine men's relay teams earned medals, with the 4x400m squad of freshman
Taevion Sweeney, sophomore
Grant King, senior
Zac Hutslar and senior
Jackson Gordon taking silver (8 pts) in 3:13.32 and the 4x100m unit of junior
Carter Olmsted, King, junior
Derek Combs and Hutslar claiming bronze (6 pts) in 41.41.
Bellarmine had several athletes barely miss the medal stand. In addition to Lane in the 800m, fourth places (5 pts) were delivered by Svidal in the women's triple jump (12.08), senior
Alex Hooten in the men's 5000m (14:31.93) and Gordon in the men's 400m (47.94).
Bellarmine had three scorers in the men's 110m hurdles in senior
Zander Hooten (sixth, 14.50, 3 pts), Olmsted (seventh, 14.77, 2 pts) and Sweeney (eighth, 15.02, 1 pt). King placed seventh in the 200m (21.67, 2 pts).
Bellarmine's women's relay teams both placed seventh (2 pts). The 4x100 relay team (48.17) consisted of sophomore
Grace Daily, junior
Annie Somwe, Svidal and freshman
Kate Alvis, while the 4x400 relay team (3:51.36) was comprised of Alvis, Somwe, senior
Jansen Story and Lane.
Bellarmine's men amassed 57 points and the women accrued 36. Central Arkansas swept the team titles (men, 229; women, 215).
