MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Facing a strong Middle Tennessee program, Bellarmine men's tennis lost to the Blue Raiders 7-0 on Sunday afternoon.
With multiple wins over power five programs already, MTSU advanced to 18-3 this season.
The Blue Raiders swept in the no. 2 and no. 3 doubles matchups, while
Jack Batchelor and
Cole Groetsch were unable to complete their no. 1 doubles match with the others finishing first.
The highlight of the day for Bellarmine came from
Xavier Ecarma, who battled in his no. 5 singles match against Lucas Olivier. Ecarma fell behind 6-3, but won set two 6-4. In a back-and-forth tiebreak, Olivier eventually prevailed 12-10.
Bellarmine begins conference play against Florida Gulf Coast in Fort Myers on Friday. The Eagles were picked to finish second in the ASUN pre-season poll.
