KENNESAW, Ga.— Bellarmine men's tennis concluded its ASUN opening weekend with a 6-1 loss at Kennesaw State on Sunday afternoon.
Cole Groetsch picked up his fifth win of the season and first of ASUN play, defeating Raul Garcia in a hard-fought match. Groetsch took the first set 6-3, Garcia claimed the second 6-1, but Groetsch won the tie-break 11-9.
In doubles, Kennesaw State cruised in the no. 2 and no. 3 matches, while Groetsch and Jack Batchelor were down 5-3 when their match was called.
The Knights also received a valiant effort from Paul Reynolds in no. 3 singles. Reynolds took the first set 6-4 against Harvey Conway, fell in set two 6-2, and lost the tie-break 10-4. Kevin Patel, Seru Tezuka, Hugo Salmeron, and Jackson Lee won the other singles matches for Kennesaw State.
Bellarmine begins its ASUN home slate on Friday against Lipscomb, followed by a Sunday match versus Jacksonville State. The matches being at 3:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. respectively at the Eddie Weber Tennis Complex.
