3/22/2022 3:23:00 PM

BOSTON, MA --- The finalists for the 2022 Hugh Durham award were announced on Monday, and Bellarmine University's Scott Davenport was among the 20 head coaches named to the list.

Davenport led his Knights to an ASUN Conference Championship and a 20-win season in Bellarmine's second year as a Division I program.  Having just completed his 17th season at Bellarmine, Davenport has amassed 398 career victories, the most in school history, and he is a former Division II National Coach of the Year.

At the Division II level, Davenport established the Bellarmine program among the nation's elite, winning a national title in 2011 and going to four Final 4s. Since rising to Division I, Davenport and the Knights are a combined 34-21 despite playing national powers such as Gonzaga, UCLA, Duke and Purdue.  Bellarmine's 2021-22 non-conference schedule was ranked second-toughest in the nation according the NCAA's NET rankings.

The Hugh Durham award, is presented annually to the top Division I mid-major coach in college basketball, is named after a coach who built winning programs at three different universities.

In eight seasons as the head coach at Jacksonville University, Durham became the Dolphins' all-time winningest Division I coach (106 wins), making him the only coach in NCAA history to be the winningest coach (pct. or wins) at three different Division I schools.

He built national programs at Florida State where he holds the record for best winning percentage with a 230-95 (.708) record in 12 years. And at Georgia where he is also the all-time winningest coach in the 99-year history of the Bulldog program, having won 297 games in 17 seasons.

Coaches of teams in the following conferences are eligible for the award: America East, ASUN, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, Horizon, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern, Summit, Sun Belt, West Coast.

The winner will be announced April 1 in New Orleans.
