Groetsch wins third straight, but men's tennis falls to Jacksonville State

LOUISVILLE, Ky.—  Following its first ASUN win and fifth straight victory at home, Bellarmine men's tennis fell short on Sunday against Jacksonville State by a final score of 4-1.

The Knights received their lone point from Cole Groetsch, who won his third consecutive match at no. 1 singles, defeating Joaquin Vallejo 6-2, 4-6, 6-4.  Groetsch and Jack Batchelor were leading 5-4 in no. 1 doubles, but their match went unfinished as Jacksonville State already secured wins in the no. 2 and no. 3 slots for the overall doubles point.

Batchelor came up just short for Bellarmine in no. 2 singles, taking Maj Tomac to three sets, but eventually losing 2-6, 7-5, 3-6.  Thomas Norwood at no. 3 singles and Jordi Blanchar at no. 6 singles had the other wins for the Gamecocks.  Xavier Ecarma was leading his match at no. 5 singles 6-4, 0-1 against Dobrnjac, but it went unfinished.

Bellarmine plays its final non-conference match of the season on Friday, when the Knights host Butler at 3:00 p.m. at the Eddie Weber Tennis Complex.
