LOUISVILLE, Ky.— Following its first ASUN win and fifth straight victory at home, Bellarmine men's tennis fell short on Sunday against Jacksonville State by a final score of 4-1.
The Knights received their lone point from Cole Groetsch, who won his third consecutive match at no. 1 singles, defeating Joaquin Vallejo 6-2, 4-6, 6-4. Groetsch and Jack Batchelor were leading 5-4 in no. 1 doubles, but their match went unfinished as Jacksonville State already secured wins in the no. 2 and no. 3 slots for the overall doubles point.
Batchelor came up just short for Bellarmine in no. 2 singles, taking Maj Tomac to three sets, but eventually losing 2-6, 7-5, 3-6. Thomas Norwood at no. 3 singles and Jordi Blanchar at no. 6 singles had the other wins for the Gamecocks. Xavier Ecarma was leading his match at no. 5 singles 6-4, 0-1 against Dobrnjac, but it went unfinished.
Bellarmine plays its final non-conference match of the season on Friday, when the Knights host Butler at 3:00 p.m. at the Eddie Weber Tennis Complex.
