COLUMBIA, Mo.—The Bellarmine men's golf team turned in its best performance as a Division I school today and yesterday at the University of Missouri's Tiger Intercollegiate held at the par-72, 7,221-yard Club at Old Hawthorne.
The Knights, behind a career performance by
Shawn DeWeese, finished fourth in the 17-team field while posting a 54-hole total of one-over-par 865 (291, 286, 288), which shatters the mark of 879 (+15) set in Murray State's tournament last April.
DeWeese, whose career-low round heading into the tourney was a 70, opened with rounds of 67 and 68 to get into contention for medalist honors. His final round 71 came up just three strokes back in the individual race but was still good enough to finish third among 90 players as the graduate student broke par in all three rounds.
The host Tigers turned in a dominating performance in winning the event by 26 shots over runner-up Wichita State with a 54-hole total of 826 (-38). Missouri was paced by Chase Parker, who won the individual title with rounds of 66, 68, and 69 to finish at 203 (-13).
DeWeese's teammates also turned in solid performances.
Jensen Klondike closed with a two-under 70 to finish 23rd in the field with an aggregate score of 218 while freshman
Kannon Tucker continued his solid play this spring and was the third Knight to break par in the tourney, recording a second round 71 and finishing tied for 40th in the field.
The Tiger Intercollegiate was Bellarmine's final tune-up before traveling to Athens, Georgia to compete in the ASUN Conference Championship at the University of Georgia Club on April 24, 25 and 26.
