ATHENS, Ga.—The Bellarmine University men's golf team brought its 2021-22 season to an end on Tuesday by finishing 12th at the ASUN Conference Championship, which was contested the past three days at the par-71, 7,258-yard University of Georgia Golf Club.
The Knights squad opened the championship in 11th after a first-round score of 309. Bellarmine rebounded with a 302 on Monday, but the Knights struggled on their final nine holes and closed with a 314 today.
Jensen Klondike led the Bellarmine contingent with his 54-hole total of 224 (75-72-77), which was good enough for a tie for 32nd in the field of 64 players.
The Ospreys of the University of North Florida were the wire-to-wire winners after posting rounds of 280, 283 and 285 to finish four-under par for the championship. Two-time ASUN Golfer of the Year Nick Gabrelcik of UNF proved that he was deserving of the accolades by closing with a 67 (-4) to win medalist honors with a 205 total (-8).
The ASUN Championship marked the final collegiate event for Bellarmine's
Shawn DeWeese. The Louisville native completed his 69th round as a Bellarmine Knight on Tuesday, finishing with a career stroke average of 76.41. He saved his best for last with his 2021-22 stroke average of 75.52 being his career low. He also posted his best single round this spring when he fired a 67 (-5) at the University of Missouri's Tiger Intercollegiate.
As a team, the Knights finished the 2021-22 season with a 297.58 stroke average, the lowest since the 2017 team that went to the DII national finals averaged 294.9.
