FLORENCE, Ala. — The Bellarmine men's tennis team was one set away from its second ASUN win of the season, but the Knights fell 4-3 at North Alabama on Sunday.
The doubles effort was strong for Bellarmine, with
Jack Batchelor and
Cole Groetsch earning a 6-4 victory in the no. 1 slot.
Xavier Ecarma and
Paul Reynolds also won 6-4 in no. 2 doubles giving BU the doubles point.
Bellarmine's two singles wins came from
Jack Batchelor and
Emil B. Berglund. Batchelor bested Carlos Matarredona 7-6, 6-4 in no. 2 singles, while Berglund topped Guilherme Diniz 6-1, 6-2 in a dominant no. 4 singles win. Batchelor's victory was his fifth singles win of the season and second in the last four matches. Berglund picked up his second ASUN victory on Sunday.
Fernando Herrera, Chris Zhang, Nazar Fedoryshyn, and Jamie Bixby won their singles matches for UNA, propelling the Lions to a home win.
Bellarmine hosts Liberty this upcoming Friday at 3:00 p.m., starting a three-match homestand to conclude the regular season.
