Hoosiers pull out 1-0 victory over Knights

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Bellarmine Knights dropped a 1-0 decision to the visiting Indiana Hoosiers in a nonconference field hockey game on Sunday afternoon in Trager Stadium.

As the low score would indicate, most of the action took place outside of the circle as the teams combined for just 16 shots and 11 penalty corners.

The Knights actually drew three more penalty corners but came up empty in seven attempts.  The lone score came in the second quarter on one of Indiana's penalty corners.  After an initial shot went wide, Lara Mortz—who had inserted—was able to collect the misfired shot and get the ball to Ava Winner who converted from close range.

The Hoosiers held a 10-6 shot advantage with IU's Yip van Wonderen firing off five. The Knights' Anna Crump and Teresa Schmidt got off two shots each to lead Bellarmine.

Arabella Loveridge of IU and Kailey Workman of BU both worked all 60 minutes in cage with each making three saves.

The shutout was the second recorded by the Hooisers this season, who also blanked the Miami RedHawks in a 2-0 victory in Oxford, Ohio.  For the Knights, it was the second time they suffered a shutout, having lost 1-0 to Virginia Commonwealth earlier this season.

After today's result, both teams are now 5-7 on the season.

Bellarmine returns to Mid-American Conference play when they travel to Muncie, Indiana on Friday to face Ball State.  The Knights return home for Senior Day on Sunday at 3 p.m. against former Division II adversary Lindenwood.
