LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Bellarmine men's basketball team returns to downtown Louisville Wednesday night for an inter-city showdown with Louisville (3-3). The teams tip at 8 p.m. (ET) inside the KFC Yum! Center on ESPN+ and ACC Network Extra.
The Knights (2-5) will be facing their fourth of six Power-5 opponents during the 2023-24 regular season, and their lone ACC opponent.
Scott Davenport's team last season walked out of the KFC Yum! Center with the program's first win over a power conference opponent, a 67-66 triumph over Kenny Payne's Cardinals.
Garrett Tipton, then a redshirt senior and now a graduate student, set a then-career high with 21 points in the win.
Davenport is a 1978 graduate of the University of Louisville. He served nine years as an assistant at U of L under Hall of Fame coaches Denny Crum and Rick Pitino from 1996-2005.
BU will look to get back in the win column after a hard-fought 62-58 loss Sunday at West Virginia. The Knights were within one with 4:43 to play after a 3-pointer by
Bash Wieland, but the Mountaineers were able to pull away down the stretch for the victory.
The Cardinals are coming off a 90-84 overtime win Sunday over New Mexico State. U of L trailed the Aggies for much of the second half before tying it on a Tre White 3-pointer with 21 seconds remaining. The three capped an 8-0 run over the final 1:09 to force overtime. Louisville took advantage of the 40 fouls committed by NMSU, cashing in on 36 of 49 free throws, including 15 of 19 in the extra period.
Sophomore Skyy Clark leads the Cards with his 16.8 ppg average. Freshman Ty-Laur Johnson is the leading distributor with 3.5 apg. Junior Brandon Huntley-Hatfield is grabbing 8.8 rpg.
