LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Detroit Mercy was ice cold from the field most of Monday night in Freedom Hall, but the Titans caught fire in the fourth quarter and ran away from the Bellarmine University women's basketball team for a 59-49 victory.
Junior guard
Hope Sivori finished only two points shy of her career high after pouring in a season-high 21 points for Bellarmine (4-6). Her five 3-pointers against Detroit Mercy (8-4) were one triple short of her career best.
Detroit Mercy outscored Bellarmine 27-11 in the fourth quarter. The Titans went 0-for-12 from the 3-point line in the first half, but they had a dramatic turnaround in the second half after sinking 6-of-9 from long range, including a 4-for-5 performance in the final period.
Bellarmine led by nine at 41-32 early in the fourth, but Detroit Mercy took control with a 20-4 run. Annika Corcoran nailed a trio of 3-pointers in a roughly one-and-a-half-minute span and finished with 16 points off the bench. Myonna Hooper notched 19 after hitting 7-of-8 shots.
Sivori opened the game by draining a pair of 3-pointers and added two free throws as Bellarmine jumped out to an 11-1 lead. The Knights had a 14-9 advantage after one but scored only six points in the second period as the Titans led 22-20 at halftime.
Bellarmine built a pair of seven-point leads in the third before taking a 38-32 advantage into the fourth. Junior guard
Hayley Harrison finished with 10 points and five assists while senior guard
Claire Knies registered 10 points and seven rebounds.
Bellarmine will play at 4 p.m. (ET) Thursday at Akron.
