LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Bellarmine men's basketball team played a complete game Monday afternoon at Freedom Hall, leading start to finish en route to a dominating 88-54 win over Boyce College.
All five Knights starters reached double-digit scoring, led by sophomore guard
Peter Suder with 19 on 8-for-10 shooting. Suder also blocked a career-high four Bulldogs shots.
Junior forward
Langdon Hatton pulled down a career-high 17 rebounds, including four on the offensive end, and scored 12 points to record his first double-double at Bellarmine. His 17 rebounds were the most by a Knight since Jake Thelen had 19 in the 2015 NCAA Division II Final Four against Florida Southern.
Senior guard
Garrett Tipton added 17 points, hitting a career-high five three-pointers in nine attempts. He has hit at least one three in nine straight games.
Sophomore guard
Billy Smith received his first career start and responded by dishing out a career-high six assists and dropping in 10 points.
Senior guard
Bash Wieland scored 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds, good for his fourth straight double-digit effort. He is averaging 14.3 ppg in three games since being inserted into the starting lineup in place of the sidelined
Ben Johnson.
Junior guard
Dezmond McKinney and freshman guard
Zach Reed each chipped in eight points off the bench. They were the first points of Reed's career.
As a group, Bellarmine set new season highs with 34 made field goals, 20 assists and eight blocks. They matched their season-high with 11 made threes.
Boyce was led by senior guard Brody Madiera with 16 points. He was just 5-for-17 from the field, but 4-for-8 from behind the arc.
The Knights return to action with another 11 a.m. ET tipoff Thursday against DIII Berea College. It is the second of two Inspiration Day games welcoming groups of local students into Freedom Hall.
