Brown approaches triple-double, Harrison scores 20 as Knights romp against Asbury

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Sophomore guard Miyah Brown was ever so close to a triple-double.

And after a dicey first quarter, the Bellarmine University women's basketball team made sure the outcome was nowhere near close.

On Saturday afternoon in Freedom Hall, Bellarmine commanded the middle portion of its contest with pesky Asbury while racing to a 90-65 victory.

Brown was a mere two assists shy of a triple-double after amassing 16 points, 10 rebounds and a career-high eight helpers for Bellarmine (3-5). Junior guard Hayley Harrison nailed four 3-pointers in registering a game-high 20 points while senior forward Lucy Robertson matched a career high with 14 points on 6-for-9 shooting.

Sophomore forward Paetynn Gray notched eight points, six rebounds and three assists while junior guard Hope Sivori sank 3-of-4 from beyond the arc in tallying nine points and three assists. Sophomore guard Jayla Butler was also near double figures with eight points, and senior guard Mackenzie Keelin corralled eight rebounds.

Bellarmine's press and pressure defense paid major dividends. The Knights forced 28 turnovers and scored 31 points off them. Butler piled up five steals while Brown and Sivori had four apiece as the Knights collectively racked up 19 thefts.

Asbury came to play and the Eagles were even at 16 with Bellarmine after the first quarter. Asbury led 25-22 with 6:47 left in the second period, but Harrison drained a pair of perimeter shots in triggering a 19-6 run for a 41-31 advantage at halftime.

Bellarmine carried that play into the second half. Brown either scored or assisted on straight five baskets during a 12-2 run, including a pair of helpers on 3-pointers by Sivori, the latter of which boosted the lead to 20.

Bellarmine finished with 25 assists on 39 made baskets. The Knights shot 47 percent overall and had a 45-39 rebounding advantage.

Bellarmine will host Campbellsville-Harrodsburg at 6:30 p.m. (ET) Thursday.
