Knights to close home schedule with Central Arkansas

Bellarmine will celebrate "Senior Day" with ceremony prior to game

LOUISVILLE, Ky.—The Bellarmine Knights will close the home portion of its 2022-23 schedule on Sunday with a 4 p.m. contest with ASUN Conference rival Central Arkansas in Freedom Hall.
 
Bellarmine (12-16, 7-8 ASUN) comes in The Bellarmine team is looking to shake off a poor shooting performance in its last outing and get back in the win column in its final home game of the season.
 
The Knights dropped a 70-57 decision to North Alabama on Thursday night in the KFC Yum! Center as BU hit just 33 percent of its shots. Peter Suder was the leading scorer, tossing in 17, and Juston Betz recorded a career-high 12 rebounds in the loss.
 
On the season, redshirt senior Garrett Tipton is BU's leading scorer, averaging 12.9 points per game.  Redshirt freshman Ben Johnson also is averaging in double digits, scoring at a 10.9 points per game clip.  Johnson also is the Knights' leading 3-point shooter with 59.
 
Betz, who improved his rebounding average to 5.5 per game with his effort on Thursday, is the team rebounding leader. He also is the top assist man at 3.3 per game.
 
Central Arkansas is carrying on this season without head coach Anthony Boone, who had successful heart surgery in January.
 
Entering play on Sunday, the Bears  are battling to grab one of the 10 ASUN Conference Championship berths up for grabs, but at 4-11 in league play, find themselves tied for 12th in the standings. Therefore, UCA is in a "must win" situation to keep its tourney hopes alive.
 
Leading the Bear's offensive this year is 2022 ASUN Freshman of the Year Camren Hunter.  The 6-3 "do-everything" guard is averaging 16.6 points (4th in the league), 4.0 assists (5th in the league) as well as 5.1 rebounds. Meanwhile, senior Eddy Kayouloud also is having a nice season averaging 15.2 points and a team-leading 6.4 rebounds.
 
Central Arkansas has a third double-digit scorer in guard Collin Cooper.  The 6-2 junior is putting up 10.2 points per game and is the Bears' leading 3-point shooter with 45 on the season.
 
In their last outing, the Bears fell to Eastern Kentucky 74-58. Kayouloud led the way for UCA with 14 points and 8 rebounds. 
 
Prior to Sunday's game, Bellarmine will honor nine team members for senior day.  The players making their final appearance today are Betz, Tipton, Sam DeVault, Drew Comer, and Nick Thelen.  Also wrapping up their Bellarmine careers are managers Garrett Inman, Tristan Beckmann, Sheldan Christmas and graduate manager Rocky Celebrezze.
