RICHMOND, Ky. — In its shortest conference trip of the season, the Bellarmine men's tennis team again took care of business. The Knights defeated Eastern Kentucky 6-1 on Wednesday afternoon, keeping Bellarmine in a tie for first place in the ASUN.
With the victory, Bellarmine (13-7, 5-0 ASUN) has now won four straight matches and swept EKU in the season series.
The Knights started fast in doubles, with
Kyle Tang and
Jack Batchelor teaming up at no.1 for a 6-2 victory.
Paul Reynolds and
Eli Wood followed at the no. 3 spot with a 6-1 win, securing the doubles point.
Singles brought more success for Bellarmine.
Eli Wood nabbed his second consecutive win with a dominant 6-1, 6-1 victory over Zach White at the no. 6 position.
Vineet Ramesh picked up his fourth straight singles win with a 6-2, 6-2 triumph over Arthur Bugeaud at no. 5 singles.
Jack Batchelor had the clinching victory at no. 3 singles, defeating Paul-Antoine Braset 6-3, 6-2 – his fourth straight win.
Paul Reynolds added a hard-fought 6-0, 3-6, 10-7 win against J. Anurag Reddy at no. 4 singles, while
Kyle Tang earned a 7-6, 2-6, 10-6 win over Kristoffer Stahlbrand at no. 2 singles.
Matthew Nice took the first set off Moritz Mayer at no. 1 singles but fell in three sets.
Bellarmine has a quick turnaround with a Thursday home match against Queens beginning at 2:30 p.m. at the Eddie Weber Tennis Complex. The Knights will honor their lone senior,
Paul Reynolds, prior to their final regular season home match.
