Kenyon Goodin signs to play basketball for Knights

LOUISVILLE, Ky.—Bellarmine University Head Men's Basketball Coach Scott Davenport announced today that 6-3 guard Kenyon Goodin has signed a national letter-of-intent to play for the Knights next season.

Goodin, who was a sought-after football quarterback at Martha Layne Collins High School in Shelbyville, Kentucky, also starred for the Titans on the hardwood, finishing his basketball career with 1,413 points—fourth most in school history, while leading Collins to a 68-24 record (73%) during his career.  He was a 2023 All State honorable mention recipient, a three-time All-8th Region selection, and a Kentucky All Star his junior and senior seasons.  This past year, he poured in 637 points for the Titans, which is second in program history.

Davenport said Goodin is a great fit for Bellarmine basketball.  "Family describes Kenyon Goodin!" Davenport said. "He comes from a very strong family that embraces education and team. His mother and father are successful teachers/coaches, and their beliefs are reflected throughout their family on and off the court or field. Kenyon is a well-rounded athlete who is all about team. We are excited to teach/coach such a tremendous prospect. His future is bright, and we are glad it is at Bellarmine. It is exciting to coach an individual whose desires in the classroom and on the court fit the goals of your program."

Goodin, who is an honor student in the classroom, said, "I am extremely excited and blessed to be able to play for a historic basketball program at Bellarmine with incredible teammates and great coaches! The team is a brotherhood, and I am ready to be a part of this great culture. I will approach the next step in my basketball journey with a humble attitude and a willingness to do whatever it takes to help our team win."

Goodin's high school coach Chris Gaither agrees with Davenport that the Titan is a good fit for the Knights.  "Coach Davenport once said about the players on his team, 'They're using basketball.  It's not using them,' Gaither recalled. "Kenyon Goodin has been a stellar athlete at Collins High School in football and basketball, winning over 73 percent of his basketball games, amassing numerous awards, records, and accomplishments the past three years.  Bellarmine, most importantly, is getting a young man who uses athletics but is not defined by or needs athletics.  When I've heard Bellarmine coaches discuss their culture and tell stories of players getting off a plane at 2 a.m. and attending class at 8 a.m. that morning, Kenyon Goodin is a perfect fit for their culture and expectations."

With his signing, Goodin becomes the third high school senior to sign with Bellarmine this academic year.  In the fall, the Knights inked AJ Lux from Crown Point, Indiana and Grant Whitaker from Murray, Kentucky.
