KENNESAW, Ga. — The Bellarmine men's tennis team had its five-match win streak snapped on Thursday, as the Knights fell at Kennesaw State by a final score of 4-3.
Bellarmine entered the match 6-0 and tied for first place in the ASUN. The Knights are now 6-1 and tied for second place in the conference with FGCU and North Florida.
The doubles point turned out to be critical on Thursday, and the Owls earned it with a pair of 6-4 victories at the no. 1 and no. 2 spots. Bellarmine's
Paul Reynolds and
Eli Wood were tied in their no. 3 doubles match 5-5, but it went unfinished.
There were three tight singles battles, and Bellarmine came out victorious in two of them.
Jack Batchelor rallied to defeat Kevin Patel 4-6, 6-0, 6-4 at no. 3 singles, while
Vineet Ramesh earned a 2-6, 6-1, 7-6 win over David Leon at no. 5 singles.
Paul Reynolds nearly completed a comeback as well at no. 4 singles, but KSU's Anthony Weingarten held on for a 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 win.
Eli Wood added Bellarmine's other point on the day with a win by retirement at no. 6 singles.
Bellarmine's final match of the regular season at North Florida has been moved from 1:00 p.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Saturday due to rain in the forecast.
