4/6/2023 10:26:00 AM

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Bellarmine softball continues its ASUN slate on the road this weekend with a three-game series at Austin Peay.

The Knights face the Governors in a Friday doubleheader at 3:00 p.m. ET and 5:30 p.m. ET (2:00 p.m./4:30 p.m. CT), followed by a Saturday series finale at 2:00 p.m. ET (1:00 p.m. CT).

Bellarmine picked up its first conference victory last weekend with a 3-1 triumph over Queens.  Bellarmine's pitching excelled all series, holding the Royals to five total runs.

Sophomore Claire Lehmkuhler was spectacular in each game against Queens, allowing just three earned runs over 16 innings of work.  Lehmkuhler leads the Knights with a 5.30 ERA and 82 strikeouts over 103 innings pitched.  Junior Carson Goatley was exceptional in Saturday's second game, holding Queens scoreless over five innings in her start.

At the plate, Chloe Collins continues to showcase her power, hitting home runs in her last two games.  Collins now has seven long-balls on the season, ranking third in the ASUN.

Austin Peay has a 17-13 record this season with a 5-4 mark in ASUN play.  The Governors were picked to finish eighth in their first season in the conference.  APSU faced Queens two weekends ago and took two of three from the Royals in Charlotte.  Most recently, Austin Peay traveled to Florida Gulf Coast where they nabbed the series opener 6-0 but lost their final two games in Fort Myers.  Gabi Apiag leads the team with a .346 batting average, while Jordan Benefiel has a team-best 2.12 ERA in the circle and 144 strikeouts – her strikeout mark leads the ASUN.

Friday's first contest is Bellarmine's first ever meeting with Austin Peay.
