Lipscomb rallies late for 3-2 win over men's soccer

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Defending ASUN champion Lipscomb rallied for three goals inside the last 13 minutes to capture a heartbreaking 3-2 win over the Bellarmine University men's soccer team Saturday at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium.

Lipscomb (3-2-2, 2-0 ASUN) scored the game-winner inside the last 10 seconds against the Knights (1-2-4, 0-1-1). The Bisons' Wyland Worley collected a Bellarmine clearance and sent it into the box for Nick Dang, who bumped it to a nearby Tyrese Spicer for an open shot from 14 yards. Spicer converted for his ASUN-best seventh goal of the season.

Lipscomb was able to erase a 2-0 Bellarmine lead. The Knights got on the board in the 16th minute after senior midfielder Jack Fischer tapped to sophomore midfielder Ben Griffis in the box. Griffis pushed the ball forward with a bicycle kick and senior defender Brock Pope swooped in at the 6 in front of the Lipscomb goalkeeper and punched the ball into the net for his second goal of the season.

After halftime, Bellarmine built a 2-0 advantage in the 56th minute. Near the end line, senior midfielder Rahim Shalash crossed to a hard-charging Fischer, who met the pass at the 6 and rammed it into the net for his first career goal.

Boasting the highest-scoring offense in the ASUN, Lipscomb finally broke through with 13 minutes left in the game, as George Macready scored on the back side of a corner kick.

Lipscomb equalized the contest in the 85th minute. Malachi Jones' cross got deflected but found William Bryan, who sank a shot from close range.

Lipscomb finished with an 18-9 advantage in shots, including 10-5 on frame. Both teams had seven attempts in the first half, but the Bisons had an 11-2 advantage in the second half.

Bellarmine will play at 3 p.m. (ET) Tuesday at IUPUI in a nonconference contest.
