Knights earn 3 singles wins against Charlotte, also play Power-5 Virginia Tech

BLACKSBURG, Va. — The Bellarmine University men's tennis team played two matches Sunday at Virginia Tech, falling 7-0 to the Hokies before being edged 4-3 by Charlotte.

Bellarmine (1-4) secured three singles wins against Charlotte. Junior Jack Batchelor topped Ivan Dreycopp 6-3, 7-5 at No. 1, sophomore Vineet Ramesh clipped Matias Iturbe (CHAR) 4-6, 7-6 (8-6), 1-0 (14-12) in a thriller at No. 3 and freshman Louie Fletcher outlasted Alex Richards 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 at No. 6.

Batchelor and sophomore Matthew Nice were neck-and-neck with Charlotte's Coy Simon/Matias Iturbe at No. 1 doubles before the match went unfinished due to the 49ers clinching the doubles point.

Against Power-5 Virginia Tech, senior Kyle Tang won a tiebreaker in the second set against Hugo Maia to force a super tiebreaker before being edged at No. 3 singles. Starting a theme for the day, Batchelor and Nice were locked up at 4-all with the Hokies' Ryan Fishback/Maxime St. Hilaire at No. 1 doubles when VaTech clinched the doubles point.

Bellarmine will play at 1 p.m. (ET) Friday at Indiana.
