Bland notches eighth double-double of the season in volleyball's loss to Jacksonville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Sophomore Natalie Bland tallied her team-high tying eighth double-double of the season as the Knights dropped their third straight match, a 3-0 loss to Jacksonville, on Saturday afternoon at Knights Hall.

The loss moves Bellarmine to 6-14 on the year and 3-7 in ASUN action. With the win, Jacksonville improves to 11-11 overall and 6-4 in league play.

Bellarmine jumped in front 6-4 early in the first set and we're able to fend off Jacksonville runs to maintain a lead at 12-10. From there, the Dolphins remained persistent until they pounced for an 8-0 run to bust the score open and take a 23-15 lead before finally closing out the set for a 25-17 win. The second stanza started in similar fashion to the first with Bellarmine taking an initial 7-5 lead. Once again, Jacksonville struck hard, this time with five straight puts to take a 10-7 lead. From there, JU continued to push the pace, cruising to a 25-17 victory. The Knights came out ready for a fight in the third, battling for every point. A back-and-forth affair from the get-go, Jacksonville took a narrow two-point lead into the media timeout, up 15-13. From there, Bellarmine continued to fight for points, always staying within striking distance. The Knights got within one, down 19-18 but a final surge from the Dolphins sealed the match with a 25-21 win.

Bland led the Knights in both kills and digs, registering 11 each while adding an assist and an ace. Senior Anna Purichia was second on the team with seven kills while fifth-year senior Addison Foote rounded out the trio with six kills, two digs and an assist. Acting as the setter in the match, grad student Mara Perry tallied 27 assists while contributing seven digs, four kills and an ace. Freshman Payton Parsons was also able to notch double digits in the digs column with 10.

Up next, Bellarmine will begin its longest road stretch of the season with the first of four matches at Lipscomb on Friday, November 1 in Nashville, Tn.
