Gladys nets golden goal in field hockey’s double-overtime win at Saint Francis

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Isabel Gladys picked a whale of a time to fire her first goal of her senior campaign. The veteran midfielder sent in a game-winning golden goal just over three minutes into the second overtime Sunday afternoon to lift the Bellarmine field hockey team to a 2-1 win over Saint Francis.

The score for Gladys was just the fourth of the Knights' co-captain's career and her first game-winner. The Ballard product took the feed from fellow senior midfielder Bente Moormann from the left side across the face of the goalie, made a move and put it in the back of the cage, besting the Red Flash defender and goalkeeper.

Starting the scoring for the Knights way back in the second quarter was fifth-year senior Anna Crump. Crump accepted a penalty corner insert from Luna Tuncay and passed it off to Moormann on her right. Moormann gave it right back and Crump fired it in for her team-leading sixth goal. Crump also leads the Knights with 16 points.

Moormann recorded her second career two-assist effort. She also handed out a pair of helpers in the Knights' 3-2 win at Central Michigan on September 16, 2022 as a sophomore. The Amsterdam native is second on the team to Crump with 11 points.

Keeping Bellarmine in the game all afternoon was keeper Kailey Workman. The junior co-captain saved 13 Red Flash shots, including a whopping seven in the first overtime period. It was her sixth double-digit save effort and the third in Bellarmine's last four games.

Riley Kromer scored the lone goal for Saint Francis on her Senior Day. The second-quarter tally was assisted by junior Chloe Butz.

SFU managed to outshoot Bellarmine 22-6, 14-4 on goal, though the Knights were more efficient with their attempts. The Red Flash also dominated the battle for penalty corners, 13-3.

Bellarmine, having now snapped their five-game losing streak, returns home for their Senior Day and season finale on Friday at Trager Stadium. First touch against Ball State is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET.
