NORMAL, Ill. — In an ultra-competitive match, Illinois State managed to top the Bellarmine University men's tennis team 4-3 on Sunday at Evergreen Racquet Club.
Illinois State (5-3) swept the doubles contests but won two of the three in tiebreakers, as securing that point was crucial against Bellarmine (1-7).
Four of the singles matches would also require tiebreakers. Bellarmine was victorious at Nos. 1-3, as junior
Jack Batchelor defeated Nam Pham 7-5, 3-6, 6-1, sophomore
Vineet Ramesh topped Arvid Hjalte 6-0, 6-7 (4-7), 6-1 and senior
Kyle Tang downed Adrian Dibildox 7-6 (7-5), 6-3.
In addition to the doubles point, Illinois State added wins at Nos. 4-6 singles to take the match. It was a battle, as the contests at Nos. 4 and 6 involved tiebreakers in one set each.
Bellarmine will play at 6 p.m. (ET) Friday at Tennessee State.
