LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Bellarmine University men's tennis team completed a perfect week after posting a 7-0 victory over Butler on Sunday at the Eddie Weber Tennis Complex that was preceded Friday by a 4-3 neutral-site win over Tennessee State at the Alabama Athletic Club in Huntsville.
Bellarmine (3-7) wrangled the doubles point against Butler (3-9) after freshman
Louie Fletcher and sophomore
Eli Wood defeated Patrick Joss and Rahulniket Konakanch 6-4 at No. 2, and junior
Xavier Ecarma and senior
Kyle Tang topped Arnesh Singh and Borja Miralles 6-2 at No. 3.
From Nos. 1-5, junior
Jack Batchelor, sophomore
Matthew Nice, Tang, sophomore
Vineet Ramesh and Fletcher all won in straight sets while Wood completed the sweep at No. 6 by winning a super tiebreaker after splitting the first two sets.
Bellarmine's four points against Tennessee State came in singles action. Batchelor downed Jonasz Dziopak 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1, Ramesh bested Diego Britt-Alvarez 7-5, 7-5 at No. 3, Wood took down Nil Moinet 7-5, 5-7, 6-2 at No. 5 and Ecarma topped Christopher Bogelin 6-4, 6-3 at No. 6.
Tennessee State earned the doubles point, but Ecarma and Tang did win at No. 3.
Bellarmine will host Xavier at 3 p.m. (ET) Thursday.
